EVH has WAY more distortion overall (and a much better clean channel). I like the EVH, but not wowed by it. I had actually also tried out the EVH EL34, and I liked the clean tone better, but the other channels felt stiff.

It's got a better master for low volumes, and at higher volumes it's just bigger and badder, plain and simple. I found the gain and volume controls to work really well with the JVM at lower volumes.
