The NPC crew is much much more accurate with it than with the plasma one and it does a lot more damage, but the main use of the fighter is to distarct the target ship while you blast it with your ship. Oh, right. They're seekers, my bad. I just read "fixed" and assumed that meant they were dumbfire racks.

When you're up against only one or two targets at a time they add quite a bit of firepower and can serve as distractions or get an enemy off you, but in more volatile situations like in combat zones, they tend to die rather soon in my experience. #3. The benefit to having the larger fighter hangers is having more than one fighter at the ready, so you can launch a new one right away after the first is destroyed.
